Staff Accountant & HR Generalist
Location: Fenton, MO
Employment Type: Direct Hire
Schedule: Onsite, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Compensation: $70,000–$80,000 annually, based on experience
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant & HR Generalist to support accounting operations, payroll administration, and day-to-day human resources functions. This hands-on position is ideal for a professional who enjoys owning a broad range of responsibilities in a stable, team-oriented environment.
The role will primarily focus on full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, month-end close, and support for budgeting and forecasting. In addition, the position will handle core HR administration, including onboarding, benefits, employee records, payroll support, workers’ compensation, and employee-policy communication.
The ideal candidate brings strong general accounting knowledge, prior HR administrative experience, excellent attention to detail, and sound judgment when managing confidential financial and employee information.
Accounting responsibilities
• Manage daily accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, journal entries, tax payments, and account reconciliations.
• Prepare and post journal entries, review general ledger activity, and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
• Complete bank reconciliations and maintain company checkbooks and related account records.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation.
• Prepare monthly and annual financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and supporting schedules.
• Prepare year-end documentation for the company’s CPA and assist with annual financial statement preparation.
• Maintain payroll-related accounting reports and records.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and other decision-support initiatives.
• Present financial reporting, trends, and insights to leadership and management.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable local, state, and federal financial regulations.
• Support internal audit activities, investigate discrepancies, and recommend corrective actions.
• Communicate professionally with customers regarding past-due invoices and outstanding account balances.
• Create and maintain corporate records, including stock certificates, shareholder reports, meeting minutes, and related documentation.
HR and payroll responsibilities
• Coordinate new-hire onboarding, including employment documentation, employee handbook review, benefits enrollment, and personnel-policy communication.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and confidential employee personnel files and HR records.
• Administer employee benefits, including enrollments, employee questions, claims support, and annual open enrollment activities.
• Process or prepare semi-monthly payroll, including hours worked, PTO tracking, payroll changes, and payroll-related reporting.
• Maintain quarterly and annual payroll reports and respond to payroll-related requests.
• Update employee records, including address changes, compensation information, PTO, status changes, absences, and termination documentation.
• Respond to employee questions regarding benefits, payroll, eligibility, compensation, and company policies.
• Assist with applicant inquiries received by phone or email and evaluate basic qualifications and eligibility.
• Coordinate workers’ compensation claims, including reporting injuries, maintaining accident records, communicating with the insurance provider, and monitoring claim progress.
• Respond to unemployment, payroll tax, and other information requests from government agencies in a timely manner.
• Process court-ordered wage garnishments after receipt of appropriate legal documentation.
• Recommend and implement improvements to HR, payroll, accounting, and administrative processes.
Qualifications
• Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 2–4 years of accounting experience in a staff accountant, full-cycle accounting, bookkeeping, or similar role.
• Previous HR administrative experience, including onboarding, benefits, payroll support, employee records, or workers’ compensation.
• Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Experience supporting month-end close and preparing financial reports.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
• Experience with Inform or similar accounting or ERP software preferred.
• Experience with payroll, HRIS, and/or benefits administration systems preferred.
• Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills.
• High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to independently review work.
• Ability to manage confidential financial, corporate, payroll, and personnel information with professionalism and discretion.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with leadership and team members.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, business documents, and basic legal or corporate documents.
