Staff Accountant – General Accounting & Sales Tax
Position Type: Direct Hire
Work Schedule: Hybrid; onsite Monday–Thursday with the option to work remotely on Fridays, subject to business needs

We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support general accounting, financial reporting, sales tax compliance, accounts payable, and the month-end close process.

This position will prepare and analyze financial schedules, reconcile accounts, process journal entries, manage full-cycle accounts payable activities, and help ensure financial information is accurate and reported on time. The ideal candidate has strong Excel skills, sound knowledge of accounting principles, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting firm deadlines.

Responsibilities
General accounting and month-end close
• Assist with the month-end closing process and ensure assigned accounts are reconciled and closed on schedule.
• Prepare and post journal entries to accurately reflect financial activity.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts and research and resolve discrepancies.
• Prepare and analyze financial schedules and supporting documentation.
• Maintain the fixed asset system and ensure accurate tracking and reporting.
• Support cash management activities, including payment exceptions and ACH or wire payments.
• Verify and reconcile corporate credit card transactions.
• Manage full-cycle accounts payable processes, including invoice review, payment processing, and account reconciliation.
Sales tax and compliance
• Prepare and file state sales tax returns accurately and on time.
• Research and respond to customer sales tax inquiries.
• Coordinate business licensing requirements and help maintain compliance with applicable regulations.
• Maintain compliance with reconciliation and reporting requirements for affiliated businesses.
• Support external, tax, and other financial audits by preparing requested schedules and documentation.
Financial data and reporting
• Maintain Excel spreadsheets and financial schedules for various markets, customers, and accounts.
• Manage and analyze large datasets with a high degree of accuracy.
• Prepare supplemental reports and analyses requested by management.
• Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and accuracy of financial data management and reporting processes.
• Collaborate with Finance and cross-functional teams to improve communication, workflow, and reporting.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Five to seven years of accounting experience in a similar role.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs or XLOOKUPs, and complex formulas.
• Experience with NetSuite or a similar accounting system preferred.
• Familiarity with Avalara, Sovos, or other sales tax platforms is a plus.
• Knowledge of state sales tax regulations and filing requirements.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to handle confidential financial information appropriately.
• Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Professional skepticism, sound judgment, and a willingness to ask questions and learn.
• CPA preferred but not required.

Success in this role
